"Headed West" is another painting from a very cold day back in January of this year. Of Kent Davis, the Ranch Manager at the Escalante Ranch, moving bred cows back to the main ranch. There wasn't much snow on the ground but the temperature was 9 degrees above 0! It had warmed up a degree or two by the time they were gathered and coming out on the road.

I had moved to block off a driveway so they keep headed right direction. Then they started coming out of the corn field they were in and hitting the road going west to the ranch. As Kent rode out of the field and turned to look into the sun, it happened..I see a painting!

The lighting on the horse, with the black cows behind him, just struck me and it was so eye catching. I knew I had to try to capture the movement and the light!

The mountain to the north has always been one of my favorite subjects during the early mornings or the evening hours. The abstract lines of the shadows on the adobe hills are always so beautiful.
